Film & Philosophy

Movie theatres are modern day techno-pulpits; not so different from church assemblies.  People flock to their local multiplex, group together, and find themselves moved by a worldview revealed in story form.  And in so doing, they allow directors and screenwriters to influence how they feel, think, and act.  Their philosophy & their theology.

As image-bearers of God (the master storyteller, whose story spans all of creation) we in turn have a yearning to both create and be entertained by stories.  This is evident even within scripture as Jesus teaches in parables. Christians should enjoy and engage film not just as entertainment, but also with a honed philosophical lens to engage culture, and reflect on how it relates to the gospel.

As a Gospel community within our city, Reality Vancouver church seeks to engage & understand culture as reflected in the arts - especially film.  Occasionally we'll host a Film & Philosophy night which will involve a public screening, refreshments, a commentary on the themes & message, and opportunities for questions & discussion.  Some are all-ages events (Family Movie Nights) while others may have age & maturity guidelines.
