Grace Like Rain

Speaker: Kristian Martens
Text: Genesis 6:5-9
Summary: Noah was a normal guy living in a jacked up time & place. Yet despite the reality that every intention of man's heart was all evil - all the time - Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. The story of Noah (creation - flood - ark - rainbow - covenant) depicts the story of the Gospel because it centers around grace - not works. As Noah found grace, so we, like Noah, are given grace through Jesus' life - ministry - death - resurrection - promise. May we stop religiously working to earn God's favour, and start receiving the grace poured out to us in Jesus. Grace like rain.

Ruth's Redemption Song

Date: 08.03.08
Speaker: Kristian Martens
Text: Book of Ruth
Summary: One of the most beautiful short love stories in the bible, Ruth depicts God's hand of providence - working all things for His glory and our joy. Although if it were a film, it would likely be released as a 'chick flick' - it might better be presented as a hybrid of Rambo & Nacho Libre - because Boaz is one of the dudeliest dudes in the entire bible. The Gospel theme of the story is redemption - Ruth's redemption by Boaz - pointing to our redemption by Jesus. In addition, Boaz presents a great picture of biblical manhood while Ruth beautifully depicts biblical femininity. They are role models of the highest calibre. Jesus comes to us as the uber-Boaz - the Redeemer who pays our ransom - transforming our hearts, inviting us into His family & setting us free.
