Luke 2_1-21_Arrival & Response

Date: 12.20.09
Speaker: Kristian Martens
Passage: Luke 2:1-21
Title: ARRIVAL & RESPONSE
Summary: A look at probably the most common 'Christmas' passage in the scripture. Half of it even made it onto the classic Charlie Brown's Christmas special.

Most of the traditions often associated with 'Christmas' - from the trees, to gift-giving, to mistletoe, to the date - have been ripped off from other cultures & traditions...some pre-dating the manger, shepherds & the midnight clear. Most are NON (PRE)-Christian & pagan in origin.

In this sermon we'll look at the absurdity of putting Christ back into Christmas - since Christians are the ones that wedged him into a few pre-existing pagan traditions in the first place. But we'll delve into the wonder of Grace & Truth come down in flesh - and why celebrating Jesus - who inserted Himself into the dust of humanity - is indeed a cause worthy of wonder, peace & joy. Christmas, and the Gospel, is the story of redemption.

May the reality of Jesus: his birth - life - message - mission - death - resurrection & glory - be the centre of all we do over the holy-days.
Merry Christmas, one and all. Jesus has come, for one and all.

NOTES INCLUDE CHARACERS & CHRONOLOGICAL BIBLICAL STORY OF CHRISTMAS - FOR ACTING OUT WITH FAMILY/FRIENDS.
