Hello family and friends,
My time in Moldova is coming to an end. Next week I will be home, I can't believe it. I definitely have mixed feelings about this. I'm super excited to see my family and friends again, but at the same time it will be sad to leave people who have become close friends over the last 3 months.
I have experienced and learned a lot during my time in Moldova. The kids I have gotten to know are so great and I love them so much. It's difficult knowing they come from socially vulnerable families or do not have family at all, however I have seen God's light in so many places. I think it's amazing that these kids can come to La Via (Word Made Flesh's program) and feel loved and cared for, that there is a whole community of people who wants to support them and show them that they are worthy, valuable and that they have dignity. These kids have blessed me in so many ways. A couple weeks ago a quiet little girl from the 3rd grade, came up to me, grabbed my arm and tied a bracelet that she made and said "pentru tine" (for you), and then ran off. That simple act of giving me the bracelet gave me so much joy and is a moment I will never forget. This bracelet is now permanently on my arm. It serves as a reminder that sometimes it's the little things that give us the most joy. It will also remind me to pray for this little girl and for all the other children at the school.
I could write forever about joyful moments I've had with the kids. I have received joy from each hug and handshake the kids give me when they arrive or leave the program, from each game of Uno, Go Fish, and Old Maid I've played with the kids, from holding their hands as they learn to rollerblade, from seeing the huge sense of accomplishment they feel after finishing a sewing project, from sitting beside them and helping them on the computer (or sometimes just watching them play games), from attempting to have conversations with them in Romanian, and from just being present with these kids. God has used these kids to bless me in so many ways. I have learned so much more from the kids than they have learned from me, they have given me way more than I have given them, they have helped me more than I have helped them.
We did a year end program with the kids on Wednesday since it was the last week of school. The kids said nice words to me, Amanda, and Jessie, and then prayed for us. We gave them a giant card and performed a song that we wrote for them - in Romanian! It was pretty spectacular. We had actions and everything. It was so much fun.
Thank you so much for all the ways you have supported me during this trip. Your prayers have been a huge encouragement and have helped get me through the challenges I've experienced here. God's grace has been absolutely amazing and I give all the glory and thanks for Him for the incredible experience this has been.
With peace and love,
